About this Event

In the town of Ashwood, nestled between two towering mountains and shrouded in dense pine forests, the residents were known for their resilience. They prided themselves on their tough demeanor, a badge of honor against the unforgiving winters and harsh realities of rural life. But nothing prepared them for the day the dead started walking among them.

It began with a thunderstorm that rolled in one afternoon, dark clouds looming ominously over Ashwood. The rain fell in sheets, drenching the earth and creating rivers that coursed through the streets. The residents sought refuge in their homes, turning up the television or gathering around the fireplace, oblivious to the danger that lurked just beyond their front doors.

That evening, the power flickered and died. A collective groan echoed through the town as the lights went out. The only illumination came from the occasional flash of lightning, casting eerie shadows against the walls. Conversations grew hushed, punctuated by the howling wind and the sound of rain slapping against the windows.

In the Thompson household, twelve-year-old Jamie huddled under a blanket with his younger sister, Ellie. Their mother, Sarah, lit candles and tried to keep the atmosphere light. “Remember the stories I used to tell you about the ghost in the woods?” she asked, attempting to distract them.

Ellie’s eyes widened. “Is it really true, Mom?”

“It’s just a story, sweetie,” Sarah reassured, glancing nervously at the darkened windows. But there was a tremor in her voice that didn’t escape Jamie’s notice.

As the hours dragged on, the storm intensified. The wind howled like a banshee, and the rain battered the roof like a thousand drummers in a frenzy. Just as Jamie began to nod off, a loud bang shook the house. They all froze, hearts racing.

“Mom, what was that?” Jamie whispered, his voice barely audible over the roar of the storm.

“I don’t know. Stay here,” Sarah instructed, grabbing a flashlight and moving cautiously toward the front door. With every step, Jamie’s anxiety grew, and he felt Ellie clutch his arm tightly.

Sarah opened the door just a crack, peering into the darkness. Lightning illuminated the yard for a brief moment, revealing something moving beyond the fence—a figure, staggering and shuffling like it was trapped in a dream.

“What the…” she murmured, her voice trailing off.

“Mom?” Jamie called, panic rising in his throat.

Before Sarah could respond, a shriek cut through the air, followed by the unmistakable sound of footfalls. Jamie felt his stomach drop as the door swung open wider, revealing a grotesque sight. The figure was drenched, mud caked on its clothes, but what made Jamie’s heart race was its face—sunken eyes and a twisted grin that seemed utterly out of place.

“Run!” Sarah shouted, her instincts kicking in. She slammed the door, but not before Jamie caught a glimpse of the creature lunging toward them.

With a rush of adrenaline, Sarah ushered the children to the back of the house, where they could escape through the kitchen door. The storm raged on, but the house felt like a tomb, their breaths heavy in the silence.

“We need to get to the Johnsons’ place,” Sarah decided, her voice steadier than she felt. The Johnsons lived just down the road, and if anyone could help, it was them.

As they stepped into the night, the air was thick with rain and dread. The streets were almost unrecognizable, and shadows flickered under the intermittent lightning. Every sound—a rustle, a crash—sent shivers down Jamie’s spine.

They moved quickly, keeping close together, but as they rounded a corner, Jamie froze. Ahead, a group of those things shuffled through the streets, their eyes vacant and their mouths moving as if whispering secrets in a language long forgotten.

“Mom!” he whispered urgently, but Sarah’s eyes were wide with fear.

“Stay behind me,” she ordered, but Jamie couldn’t look away.

Suddenly, one of the creatures turned its head, and its gaze locked onto Jamie. It lunged, and instinct took over. Jamie grabbed Ellie’s hand, pulling her behind a nearby tree as Sarah shouted for them to run.

“Go!” she yelled, and Jamie propelled them forward, sprinting with all his might. The world around him blurred into a chaotic mix of rain, shadows, and terror. They dashed toward the Johnsons’ porch, their hearts pounding.

Just as they reached the door, Jamie risked a glance back. The creatures were closing in, relentless in their pursuit. They were dead serious about finding them.

With a final burst of energy, Jamie pounded on the door, his fists aching. “Let us in! Please!”

The door swung open, revealing Mrs. Johnson, her face pale and terrified. “What’s happening?” she gasped, but there was no time to explain. They rushed inside, slamming the door shut behind them.

Inside, chaos reigned. The Johnsons had barricaded their windows, but the atmosphere was thick with fear. They quickly gathered in the living room, hearts racing, recounting their harrowing experiences.

“We need to figure out what to do,” Mr. Johnson said, his voice steadying the group.

But as they spoke, a sense of dread began to settle over them. The storm had intensified, and with it, the sound of scratching at the windows grew louder.

“We’re safe here,” Sarah insisted, but her voice lacked conviction.

Suddenly, the lights flickered back on, illuminating the horror outside. The once quiet street was alive with figures moving in unison, a haunting reminder of the night that had turned their world upside down.

As Jamie stared out into the storm, he realized this was just the beginning. The dead were serious, and they had come to reclaim their place among the living.
