Job Description:
• The information security analyst is responsible for researching and identifying potential cyber-threats and the technology innovations being designed to thwart them. In addition to monitoring systems for breaches, the analyst is often in charge of the implementation of security procedures and software throughout a company's online systems.
• The analyst must be proactive in developing standards and creating firewalls to stop potential threats. A security analyst can either be an in-house company employee tasked with threat detection and prevent or he or she can work for a contractor hired by a firm to conduct threat assessments and install and run security software. In both roles, the security analyst must be able to work across departments to insure a seamless security system. The analyst must be able to present cogent reports for senior management on risks and system breaches. Team-building skills are essential, and the ability to analyze and solve security problems is a must. The security analyst most often reports to upper management, such as a chief information officer or chief technology officer.

Job Responsibilities:
• The information security analyst will monitor a company's computer systems for breaches and cyber-attacks.
• The security analyst will investigate any attacks and develop and implement strategies for mitigating damage and preventing future breaches.
• The security analyst will work with senior management to develop security standards that all employees must adopt.
• The analyst will remain current on the trends in cyber-crime and be proactive in developing strategies to deal with potential threats.
• The analyst will have a thorough knowledge of the company's various software and systems, how they interact with each other and how they interact with outside entities and customers.
• The analyst will prepare reports on breaches and potential breaches and make recommendations to deal with both.

Skills and Education:
• A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is needed
• At least five years of experience in information security systems is desired
• Information security certification such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or CISM (Certified Information Security Manager) is preferred.
• Technical knowledge of information systems, security software and operating systems is imperative
• Must be thoroughly versed in information security best practices
• Must be able to work proactively across departments to ensure compliance with security standards
• Ability to work both independently and in cross-disciplinary teams is essential
