I returned to blockchain in early 2021 to lead the development of a music NFT marketplace, OneOf, a project that blended my expertise in auctions, e-commerce, and scalability. In six months I built a team of 15 and launched on the Tezos main network. Shortly thereafter I left to work at Reach and built a decentralized exchange, Humble Swap, a constant-product market maker on Algorand. I hired a team of about 12 and launched the product within six months.
UFO Gaming is a community project (UFO Token) and I was approached in late 2021 to help build a metaverse platform and an NFT marketplace. I re-architected the gaming platform to support multi-player using Photon Engine and Namaka and built a back end Web3 metaverse server using JavaScript, all on AWS. The Unity / game development team had about 15 engineers, and I joined and hired web2 and web3 engineers, about 10 in total. We launched the Polygon staking app in late 2021 and the flagship game, SuperGalactic, on Android and Windows in alpha testing with 5,000 users in 2022.
As an engineering leader, staffing, mentoring, and cultural development are all activities that I enjoy. I build a collaborative, fun culture that invigorates and motivates in an environment of respect. I’m energetic and passionate about building groundbreaking products and the teams that make them; I typically run software development using my blend of agile methods focusing on scalability and ease of use.
I champion engineering but work collaboratively across team boundaries and make the sales and marketing departments the happiest people on earth. As an executive, I tend to be very active cross-functionally as a value-added asset to teams external to engineering. I also have decades of product development and product management experience – I am adept at running both product development lifecycles and software engineering, but I prefer to have a strong product team. My collaboration with product and business stakeholders ensures expectations throughout the development lifecycle.
I have success bringing people together with an eye on quality and a customer-first mentality. I bring a breadth of experience in strategy and execution, and I have a unique ability to deal with ambiguity and cut through the fog to lead teams forward.
With over 25 years of leadership experience, my best attribute is communication. Technical prowess aside, I have found that success at the CTO position is consummate with building a culture where individuals feel personal responsibility, achievement, and pride in project ownership.
