My name is Syed Jafri and I was born in New Jersey and lived there until I was 11 years old. Due to unfortunate circumstances of my family, we were forced to move back to the city where my parents grew up — Karachi, Pakistan. It was not an easy environment to grow up in as there were constant power outages, slow internet speeds, and occasional lack of clean water. Eventually, due to a combination of hard work and a little bit of luck, I managed to move back to the USA on my own at the age of 19 after eight years of living in Karachi. I am now living in Jersey City and have completed my Associate's Degree in Computer Science at Hudson County Community College with a GPA of 3.949. I hope to continue my studies to receive my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at Rutgers University. My future goals are to build a variety of connections and to be in a financial position where I can help myself and my family escape from poverty.

The qualities of being hardworking and perseverant have played a vital role in my life. These qualities began to develop during the years when I lived in Karachi. I lived in a situation that I wanted to escape because I was living in the slums where it was quite dangerous. In addition, there were many daily inconveniences such as multiple hours of no electricity, excruciatingly slow internet speeds, and the water would run out constantly. I knew that in order to change these circumstances, I had to work hard constantly and to persevere through the difficult times, hence the traits of hardworking and perseverance were developed. An example of hardworking would be when I was at the age of 15, I worked online constantly every single day to earn and accumulate money. I would do almost any work that I could find online such as writing articles, doing web-design, coding scripts, data entry tasks, etc. I wasn’t earning much as I was working well below the market value, but the hard work eventually paid off as most of my money earned was stored in cryptocurrency, the value of which skyrocketed a few years later. The trait of perseverance is exemplified by the fact that despite my circumstances in the slums of a third world country and earning very little, I stuck to consistently working hard and not giving up on myself. Nonetheless, the combination of being hardworking and perseverant has helped me improve my living situation as I can now afford to live in the USA on my own.
