Macroeconomist Lyn Alden suggests the cryptocurrency market may be entering a stabilization phase after months of declining sentiment, potentially signaling a more favorable environment for blockchain companies and professionals navigating the current downturn.
Speaking with CNBC on Thursday, Alden noted that speculative traders have largely exited the market and major institutional holders like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) show no signs of liquidating their Bitcoin positions. This shift comes as Bitcoin climbed above $72,600, representing a 6% gain over 24 hours.
Market Sentiment and Industry Implications
Alden observed that Bitcoin currently sits near historical lows across most valuation and sentiment metrics. This positioning could attract different categories of investors as market dynamics shift.
"Even relatively small upside gains at this point can attract new types of buyers," Alden explained, noting that improved chart patterns could draw technical traders back into the market, followed by momentum traders if gains continue over coming months.
For crypto companies that have weathered recent headwinds, stabilizing asset prices may ease pressure on treasury management and operational budgets. Many blockchain firms reduced headcount and scaled back hiring during 2026 as Bitcoin declined from its October 2025 record of $126,080.
Regulatory Progress and Sector Outlook
Bitcoin's recent price movement followed President Trump's White House meeting with crypto executives, where he advocated for passage of the Clarity Act—legislation establishing a regulatory framework for digital assets.
The bill passed the House in 2025 but remains stalled in the broader legislative process. Industry observers anticipate a September vote, potentially providing regulatory certainty that blockchain companies have sought for years.
Alden cautioned that while Bitcoin "isn't necessarily out of the woods yet," assets that remain "under-owned" by institutional investors may perform well over longer timeframes, particularly as traders reassess allocations between cryptocurrency and AI-focused technology stocks.
For web3 professionals, market stabilization could translate to renewed hiring activity and project funding as companies gain clearer operational visibility. The sector's ability to attract capital and talent often correlates with sustained price stability rather than speculative volatility.
