Bitget has introduced U.S. stock options trading to its platform, positioning itself as the first major cryptocurrency exchange to offer this capability alongside digital assets and traditional contracts-for-difference (CFD) markets. The move reflects growing convergence between crypto exchanges and traditional finance products as platforms compete to retain trading talent and expand their addressable markets.
Platform Expansion Targets Experienced Traders
The exchange launched its options offering with long call and long put strategies for eligible users. Call options enable bullish positions on individual stocks, while put options allow traders to take bearish positions or hedge downside risk. Unlike perpetual futures common in crypto markets, these are standard options contracts with limited risk for buyers—capped at the premium paid upfront.
This addition expands Bitget's Stock+ product line, which previously included tokenized stocks and pre-IPO access to private companies. The platform now claims to support trading across crypto, stocks, commodities, forex, and precious metals within a unified interface.
According to CEO Gracy Chen, the exchange processed demand from its 125 million registered users for more sophisticated equity trading tools. The company reports offering access to over 500 tokenized stocks and ETFs alongside its cryptocurrency products.
Market Context and Workforce Implications
The timing aligns with record activity in U.S. options markets, which processed over 15.2 billion contracts in 2025—averaging 60 million contracts per trading day. This volume surge has created demand for trading platform professionals with expertise in both traditional derivatives and digital asset infrastructure.
For web3 professionals, this convergence signals expanding career opportunities at crypto-native firms. Exchanges adding traditional finance products typically hire for compliance roles, derivatives product management, and engineering positions requiring knowledge of both legacy market infrastructure and blockchain systems. Bitget's expansion into regulated financial products suggests the company will need personnel experienced with options market structure and regulatory frameworks.
The platform plans to add multi-leg options strategies in future releases, which would require additional development resources and trading operations expertise. Professionals with cross-domain knowledge in derivatives pricing, risk management, and crypto market microstructure may find increased opportunities as exchanges continue blending asset classes.
