BTQ Technologies has deployed the first working implementation of Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 360 (BIP 360) on its Bitcoin Quantum testnet v0.3.0, creating new testing opportunities for blockchain developers and security specialists focused on post-quantum cryptography.

Technical Infrastructure and Implementation

The release introduces Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR), a new transaction format designed to protect Bitcoin from potential quantum computing threats. The implementation restructures how transaction data is committed on-chain, eliminating public key exposure during certain transaction paths—a vulnerability that could become critical as quantum computing advances.

BTQ's testnet includes complete wallet infrastructure, enabling developers to create, fund, sign, and broadcast P2MR transactions. According to the company, the network currently supports over 50 miners and has processed more than 100,000 blocks, providing a substantive environment for testing quantum-resistant functionality.

The implementation maintains compatibility with existing Bitcoin scaling solutions, including Lightning Network, BitVM, and Ark. However, it removes Taproot's key-path spend mechanism, which could theoretically expose public keys to quantum attacks.
