Simon Gerovich, CEO of Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed Metaplanet, will speak at Bitcoin 2026 in Las Vegas this April. His appearance comes as the company completes one of the most notable corporate transformations in the blockchain industry—pivoting from a struggling hospitality business to become the fourth-largest public corporate Bitcoin holder globally.
From Hotel Operator to Bitcoin Treasury Company
Gerovich led Metaplanet's strategic shift to a Bitcoin treasury model in early 2024, a decision that has reshaped the company's financial profile and workforce focus. The company closed 2025 holding 35,102 BTC and has set aggressive acquisition targets: 100,000 BTC by end of 2026 and 210,000 BTC by end of 2027.
The operational results reflect this transformation. Revenue increased 738% year-over-year to 8.91 billion yen, with operating profit jumping 1,695%. Bitcoin option transaction premiums now account for approximately 95% of total revenue. Gerovich has emphasized Bitcoin per share—which increased over 500% in 2025—as the primary performance metric rather than traditional net profit calculations.
To fund continued Bitcoin accumulation, Metaplanet recently raised approximately $255 million from global institutional investors through equity placement, with potential total funding reaching $531 million through additional warrants.
Expanding Beyond Treasury Holdings
Metaplanet's board approved the creation of two new subsidiaries: Metaplanet Ventures and Metaplanet Asset Management. These entities will target Bitcoin financial infrastructure companies in Japan, focusing on lending platforms, payment systems, custody solutions, derivatives products, and compliance tools.
This expansion signals potential job creation across multiple blockchain sectors in Japan, particularly for professionals specializing in Bitcoin-focused financial services, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure development.
Industry Implications
Gerovich's presentation at Bitcoin 2026 will likely draw significant attention from finance professionals and companies exploring similar treasury strategies. His experience navigating Japanese regulatory frameworks while executing an aggressive Bitcoin acquisition plan offers relevant insights for corporate decision-makers in Asian markets.
The conference takes place April 27-29 at The Venetian in Las Vegas. Metaplanet's case study represents a practical example of corporate Bitcoin adoption outside the United States, making Gerovich's session particularly relevant for professionals working in institutional adoption, corporate treasury management, and Asia-Pacific blockchain markets.
